My name is Charis Krevalin and I'm a senior at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy. I've been attending Hartford schools since I was in Pre-k. I used to live in New Britain and when my older sister was three years old my mom had her in a New Britain preschool, then she found out about a new Magnet school in Hartford. Breakthrough Magnet School. When my mom saw what it was like there she threw me into the school, then my younger siblings soon after me. I chose to come to SMSA because of the sports programs and some nursing programs that point more towards athletic training. I wanted to stay close to sports because it's been part of my life since I was little. As a kid I loved to play sports, I always wanted to play with the boys because they were always playing a sport. I didn't really play with many girls because I wanted to stay active. Playing in middle school we didn't have the pleasure of hearing who won or who scored some points or made great plays. My teammates and I were not recognized for the hard work we put into the game, I remember seeing other schools being posted online for their games but not my school. In highschool, my freshmen year I found out about the SMSA Athletics page. I loved that it helped promote athletes and share the score and who made plays and points! Taking over this Capstone is an honor for me, not only do I get to highlight other students but I get to help them be recognized for their hard work representing our school on the court or field.
MISSION STATEMENT
When I was little, it was a dream to be recognized by others for the amount of hard work I put in on the court or field. I never got that chance and it felt terrible to not be recognized for that work. To prevent that I want to help kids that are in the same position as I was by encouraging the athletes to keep putting in the hard work for that recognition they deserve. I want to pursue a career in Athletic Training, I can take care of the athletes and encourage the athletes to keep striving for that recognition. I want kids to know that their school community is watching them and that we see them working hard.
