Over this year I've done a lot. I've helped a lot and learned a lot. At the beginning of the year I wanted to be set with my capstone, or at least set on what I was going to be doing for capstone. I knew that I wanted to come into this year prepared and focused on my school work. My capstone took a turn, I had to change my capstone plan and I was worried. As my project continued I was glad I got the opportunity to change my capstone. I get the chance to be more involved in the other sports, because I am an athlete myself It's hard to see or know about the other sports. With this capstone I get the opportunity to do that. Capstone isn't just a project you need to do to pass and graduate. With capstone your project should be yours, something you enjoy, something meaningful to you and helps serve your community. Some seniors will see this project just as a project and a grade to graduate. The way I see it is, it's something that I need to be responsible for. I have this project to serve my school community and help get these student athletes out there into the world and get them recognized for their hard work playing in a sport they love. Going into senior year I didn't see myself doing everything I have completed. During the covid year I became very slipped back and got lazy, when this year started I just wanted to get capstone set and know what I would be doing, I saw this as just a project but as time went on and I started helping my peers with their capstones all while still working on mine, helping them with their capstones taught me that capstone isn't a project its about serving the community, it's also about helping my peers and supporting them through their capstones too and being responsible for everything that happens with your project. I learned through this project to be responsible and be on top of my work. I'm not just doing this for a grade, I'm doing this to get athletes recognized for all their hard work they put into the sport they love and for the athletes to know that the SMSA community is proud of their hard work and dedication to the sports they play.
Through this process I saw how peers were excited to be recognized on the page. One of my basketball teammates came to me after a game and asked if she made it onto the page. When I said she did, she got so excited and couldn't wait for the post! This showed that the work I do on the page isn't just about me and posting it's about the students, the athletes. I'm so glad I picked this capstone to see how excited my teammates or peers were to be recognized. It makes me feel accomplished in my project.
If I had the chance to start all over I would pick this capstone over and over again. This capstone is how I serve the SMSA community and I wouldn't pick any other capstone.
I came into this year thinking I would be more independent and work on myself and focusing on the work at hand. That wasn't at all true, In order for me to be more independent I had to be a little more open to helping or asking for help from my peers or teacher, I'm glad I didn't stay too independent because I feel I wouldn't have completed everything that I have without my peers or teachers.
